MINDEF

Ministry of Defence

The mission of MINDEF and the Singapore Armed Forces is to enhance Singapore’s peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor.

DSTA

Defence Science and Technology Agency

The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), a statutory board under MINDEF, harnesses and exploits science and technology, and provides technological and engineering support to meet the defence and national security needs of Singapore.

Adopting a systems engineering approach, DSTA undertakes design, development, acquisition and systems integration responsibilities, as well as operations and support management. These span the entire spectrum of capability planning, development, and sustainment of weapon systems throughout their life cycle to ensure that the SAF continue to be a formidable fighting force.

The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) is a statutory board set up under the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). It is responsible for implementing defence technology plans, acquiring defence material and developing defence infrastructure for MINDEF.

DSTA aims to provide leading-edge technological solutions to the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) so that it continues to be a formidable fighting force for the defence and security of Singapore. To do so, DSTA will tap the best technologies – military and commercial – and foster an environment of creativity and innovation for defence applications.

DSTA also helps build up a strong community of scientists and engineers from the universities, research institutes, government and industry to meet the defence and security needs of the nation.

DSO

DSO National Laboratories

DSO National Laboratories (DSO) is Singapore’s largest defence research and development (R&D) organisation, with the critical mission to develop technological solutions to sharpen the cutting edge of Singapore’s national security.

Established in 1972, DSO has evolved from a three-member team to more than 1,400 research scientists and engineers working across the domains of land, sea, air, space and cyberspace.

Our story began more than three decades ago. From a mere three-member team, we’ve evolved into a premier R&D institution, with more than 1,000 research scientists and engineers, who work seamlessly across disciplines to build strategic capabilities for Singapore in the domains of air, land, sea and cyberspace.

As Singapore’s national defence R&D organisation, DSO National Laboratories creates the critical edge in defence technology to force multiply the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) combat capabilities and render potential threats irrelevant.
