TDSI Celebrates 25 Years in Advancing Defence Education

In celebration of TDSI’s 25-year journey in advancing defence education, we were delighted to welcome generations of alumni back for a memorable Homecoming Dinner on 31 July 2026 — an evening filled with meaningful reunions, shared memories, and renewed connections. More than a celebration of the past, the gathering reflected the enduring community that has grown alongside TDSI and the collective commitment to strengthening Singapore’s defence capabilities through lifelong learning. As our students, alumni, partners, and leaders came together to commemorate this significant milestone, the evening reaffirmed TDSI’s role as a trusted partner in developing defence talent, fostering strategic collaborations, and preparing the defence workforce to navigate the rapidly evolving defence and security landscape. Looking ahead, TDSI remains steadfast in shaping the next generation of defence professionals and driving innovation through future-focused defence education.

Our heartfelt thanks to all our alumni and guests who shared their congratulatory words for TDSI – read some of their messages here.

A Proud Milestone: Launch of TDSI’s New Joint Master’s Degree Programme!

The Temasek Defence Systems Institute (TDSI) at NUS is excited to launch our new Joint Master of Science in Defence Systems Engineering and Technology – an initiative that builds on the steadfast and longstanding partnership between TDSI and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in the United States. This new academic track is designed to develop and equip defence professionals with cross-disciplinary knowledge and competencies to face evolving challenges of the dynamic defence environment.

Witnessing the signing ceremony between NUS and NPS at the launch of this new Joint Master’s Degree on 23 July 2025 were Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing, MINDEF Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Mr Melvyn Ong, TDSI Board Chairman and Chief Defence Scientist Mr Tan Peng Yam, and Dean of NUS College of Design and Engineering Professor Teo Kie Leong. Signing the Terms of Refence were NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye and NPS President Vice Admiral Ann E. Rondeau.

At the event, Mr Chan spoke about the significance of the trusted partnership between NUS, TDSI and NPS which has cemented collaborations between the Singapore and US defence establishments. Mr Chan added that he hopes this longstanding partnership will continue to develop many more leaders in the defence and technology fields, while nurturing officers with system-level perspectives to address complexities in the ever-changing world.

Today’s momentous milestone celebrates the shared commitment between NUS and NPS in shaping future generations of defence professionals and leaders to be academically grounded, strategically agile, and operationally relevant.
